Updated and Reposted So You Can Make More Money! The holidays are soon approaching, and after spending several hundred dollars on classroom supplies already, you may be looking to increase your cash flow this time of year. Here are five things you may consider doing to restock your wallet now or year round.
.) Teach. Yes, teach. There are various sites like Skillshare, and General Assembly that allow almost anyone to share their skills with others while making a profit, and also learn something from others, too. Share your skills in-person or online, in subjects ranging from handmade crafts to digital applications.
.) Flip Black Friday deals. Buy items at a deep discount or ones that offer a rebate and resell them online as one Ph.D student did in 2012. Read all about it by clicking here. The project may not yield fast results, but in this student’s case, it helped pay off his college tuition!
.) Get paid to drive. Do more than carpool. With flexibility and traffic savviness, become your own cabbie with Uber or Lyft. These popular driving services often let you pick your working hours, drive recognized riders around the area, and get paid without managing and exchanging any cash during the trip.
.) Share your home for the holidays. Sites like AirBnB and Home Away, allow you to temporarily share your nest with guests. They are especially popular if you are in close proximity to popular tourist areas, special events, or if you can simply offer up an environment that is a nice change-of-pace for vacationers. Whether you have a studio apartment to spare or your entire house, there is a screening process before you roll out the guest towels so you can be sure to have a safe, low-maintenance offering, and save your guest money while making them feel “at home” … and bringing in some extra cash for you.
.) Are you crafty? There are tons of sites like Etsy, ArtFire, and Society6, where online shop owners and designers sell a variety of things from craft tools to full-blown custom handmade art. People often love the businesses that help support the common good, so your backstory as a teacher may help in this case. According to Business Insider, there were over one million Etsy sellers who collectively made $895 million in sales in 2012 alone. Update: Etsy’s IPO did launch and is not doing so great at the moment, but you can still get rich with your own products. Check out this success story.
