Lets face facts. Not many teachers are living in mansions and driving the latest and greatest cars on the market. Life Styles of the Rich and Famous probably never featured a grades school teacher or any teacher for that matter. Now I am not saying that teachers get into to the profession to make a lot of money. As a former teacher I never had a mansion or a sports car on my wish list. I became a teacher because I love working with people and being part of a community striving to make the world a better place. With that said, I would like to buy a nice home, save money, pay my bills and go on a vacation once in a while. Not to long ago those aspirations would not strike anyone as being out of reach or unrealistic. Today many teachers are living paycheck to paycheck and find themselves having to work second and sometimes even third jobs just to pay the bills. I could write a philosophical dissertation on why this is wrong, but will save that for later. If you have to make extra money to pay your bills or to improve the quality of your life, why not have fun doing it? Have you found ways of making additional income that you don’t hate? If you feel like sharing here is the place to do it.

I teach seventh grade Humanities, love the subject, love the kids. Money concerns often plague me. I teach Judo once a week and that pays for my dojo membership. I also teach Yoga once a week. My yoga class is donation based so sometimes I make twenty or thirty bucks. Judo and Yoga are two of my top three passions, so I feel fortunate to be able to share these arts. I am trying to advertise both my classes more. My third passion is writing, but I have yet to sell a story. Thanks!

Hey Nick thanks for sharing! Great job taking what you love and turning it into extra income. Ever think of creating a website to promote your classes and writing? That would make a very interesting page. People can check out your classes and read excerpts from your stories. Facebook and other social media tools might be helpful as well. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you!
