I know some of reading this are already back in the classroom and for that we thank you! You chose once again to enter the phone booth, the bat cave, or whatever place you go to transform into the superhero that you are.
Your powers are needed now more than ever! For those who still have a few precious days left before your presence is summoned, rest up and enjoy. The children and your colleagues need you at full capacity. However, even at full strength you cannot save the world on your own. Iron Man needed the Avengers and Bat Man needed the Justice League. Thankfully you won’t have to do everything yourself.
In this post we turn our attention to individuals, businesses, and institutions that are doing great work for students, teachers, and communities throughout the nation. It is simply not possible to share every good news story or showcase all the fantastic individuals, companies and organizations that support education in just one post. Consider this part one of many to come.
I want to start off by sharing a great resource from Offers.com that will help you save money not just on classroom supplies but also on a whole bunch of other great items. The team at Offers.com has created a comprehensive list of teacher discounts on everything from dining and entertainment to pencils and notebooks. Check it out here. Please remember that you need to nurture yourself in order to give back to all those students and colleagues that are counting on you. You can’t get far on an empty tank!
Take full advantage of this special time of year. The attention and good will (and good marketing) won’t be back until Thanksgiving or maybe Halloween! Let’s take a look now at a few businesses and organizations that have decided to pay extra attention to teachers, students, and families this year. Our next stop takes us to Connecticut.
NBC Connecticut and Telemundo Connecticut joined up with Raymour & Flanigan to deliver a School Supply Donation Drive at all Raymour & Flanigan locations throughout Connecticut that ran from July 15th to August 18th. Bravo! You can learn more about that here. There were a lot of similar drives that went on nationwide that have recently concluded. Let’s take a look at few.
NBC4 ran a Stuff a Backpack event. Read about it here. In Virginia, The Salvation Army ran a school supply and clothing drive for families in need. Read about it here. In my home state, Jersey Cares, ran their annual event. They created a really great platform. Learn more about it here. I can really go on and on adding to this list, but I will stop here for now.
It is Labor Day Weekend Teachers! We at TeacherCents wish you a fantastic weekend and an amazing start to your school year!
